If Star Wars Were Made Today…

If Star Wars Were Made Today…

Star Wars is celebrating its 35th birthday this year, so just for fun, ForeverGeek has re-cast Episode IV: A New Hope as if it was being made today. What modern actors would be the most interesting choices for iconic roles like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo? Our choices may surprise you. Read more »

I Want a Giant LEGO R2-D2 In My Town

I Want a Giant LEGO R2-D2 In My Town

Ad agency Access wants to put a LEGO Minifigure atop the Arc de Triomphe. Or a life-sized Darth Vader holding his lightsaber as the entrance gate to your local parking garage. Seeing LEGO as a “a brand that can get away with in-your-face stunts” because there’s so much goodwill for it from the general public. In brainstorming creative ad ideas, this street-level LEGO promotion was at the top of their wish-list. The idea is to promote the LEGO brand not with a logo but with “massive LEGO sculptures” that are so big they demand that you tell everyone on your social networks about them. What makes this idea unique is Read more »

R2-D2 & C-3P0 Get Confused In Electronics Store [Funny Video]

R2-D2 & C-3P0 Get Confused In Electronics Store [Funny Video]

In a new TV spot for UK electronics store Currys/PC World, R2-D2 and C-3P0 get confused when they visit the modern day location and encounter strange new gadgets. Between a freezer that attacks C-3PO, the Dyson Bladeless Fan, and a rude vacuuming robot among other pieces of electronics, it’s easy to tell these two state of the art Star Wars robots are out of their element. Pay close attention and you’ll even see them playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, while other soon to be released promo’s can also be spotted. If you think you hear Anthony Daniels voicing C-3P0 you would be 100% correct. Here’s the commercial: Read more »

I Didn't Even Know R2-D2 Was a Gamer…

I Didn't Even Know R2-D2 Was a Gamer…

Brian De Vitis is a freaking genius. A mechanical engineering grad student from UCLA, he built this fully-functional R2-D2 replica that’s so much more than an R2-D2 replica. Hidden within its innards are ten game consoles. Yes, I said ten. There’s an NES, Super NES, N64, GameCube, PS2, PSP, Sega Genesis (which, of course, is situated atop R2′s dome), Sega Dreamcast, Atari 1800, and an original Xbox. And there are ports out the wazoo. Needless to say, he gutted most of those consoles and incorporated their parts and pieces into his astromech unit, but they all work. The pièce de résistance: a projector for playing the games. Lucasfilm R2-D2 iPhone Case Coming Soon

Lucasfilm R2-D2 iPhone Case Coming Soon

My wife and I are huge fans of Star Wars. Anytime the movies are replayed on Spike, we all tune in and lose a few hours in the force. I personally don’t hate the first three (I-III) as much as most people, even though they are difficult to follow at times, so I’ll watch them all. One of my favorite characters is the fun little droid, R2-D2. Read more »

Star Wars Pixar

Star Wars Pixar

This is flipping brilliant. Perhaps inspired by the just-released Toy Story 3 (haven’t seen it yet, don’t spoil it for me) an artist going by the moniker “Sillof” has mashed up Star Wars with Pixar‘s library of characters. And the result, as I said before, is pure brilliance. What’s most surprising about these mixed characters is how easily and logically they come together. It only reinforces the fact that everyone at Pixar is a Star Wars fan, and the archetypal characters in George Lucas’ original trilogy have had tremendous influences on just about every piece of genre fiction of the last three decades. For example, Sillof combines WALL-E with R2-D2 to Read more »

Observatory dresses up like R2-D2

Observatory dresses up like R2-D2

You are looking at one of the coolest college campus pranks of all time. And it just happened yesterday. Some unidentified students at Carlton College in Minnesota engaged in an end-of-the-school-year prank, dressing up the college’s Goodsell Observatory to look like the biggest R2-D2 ever. Fear not — nothing has been defaced. Look closely at the photo and you can see that it was all done with painted sheets of fabric. What’s most remarkable about it to me is how perfectly-proportioned it is. Below is a stock photo of the observatory as it normally appears. See more angles of the giant R2-D2 here. Read more »

R2-D2 1:6 authentic scale model coming in June 2010

R2-D2 1:6 authentic scale model coming in June 2010

We’ll happily report anything Star Wars related at Forever Geek, but when it’s been R2-D2 related we’ve been restricted to themed pepper mills, cameras and desktop trash cans. Thankfully that’s about to change, with news that a faithful 1:6 replica of R2:D2 is due to be available in June 2010 — that’s just five-and-a-bit months away. This limited edition model will feature eight special attachments including a periscope scanner, gripper and saw. There are slots for a light sabre and scopes in the head, while the torso has opening panels and the arms can be removed. Each R2-D2 is hand-painted, numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It’s not Read more »
