I never follow movie critics, in my experience they always give movie I end up liking bad reviews. Thanks to just trusting other movie goers and of course my own taste I almost never end up watching a bad movie at the theater.

Some movies create such buzz and do live up to the expectation like Inception that chances are good that you will enjoy it. Avatar also created a lot of hype, I liked it but did not think it was that great either. If you are like me and are picky on which movies you are going to spend money watching at the theater instead of on DVD fflick is the answer.

fflick is a movie “review” website, but instead of critics it contains all the opinions of twitterverse. You just login with your Twitter account and are immediately presented with recent movies your friends have been tweeting about. Want to know about other movies? On the homepage you have a short list of movies currently playing, opening soon and coming soon.

Read what everyone is saying about a movie, divided by Friends, Interesting, Latest, Positive and Negative. But don’t expect too much either, with a 140 character limitations, reviews are mostly limited to: it sucked, it was awesome, it was boring, great movie.

fflick helped me decide to watch “Charlie St. Cloud” when it premieres here in the Netherlands, I haven’t heard anything about the movie, except that it’s based on a book and Zac Efron(win!) stars in it. I think it’s safe to say I’ll be checking fflick weekly to see what is worth watching on the big screen.

I think it is safe to say that 98% of us have a Twitter account, active or inactive. Like with all social media applications people are driven by the amount of “friends” or “followers” they have. I also started with that drive, following people who’s time line seemed interesting and hoping the would follow back. But after almost four years with a Twitter account I can’t really care anymore, and that notion was confirmed with the clear overview of my account given to me by ManageFlitter.

ManageFlitter is a web application that helps you to easily unfollow people based on criteria such as are they following you back? How active are they on Twitter? I follow people that haven’t tweeted in so long I forget I follow them. With ManageFlitter I can easily pick them out and unfollow them.

Right after giving the web application a try I unfollowed four people for being inactive or because I realized I have no idea why I followed them in the first place. I use Twitter for cat tweeting and sometimes useful tweets with links or mentioning of a book or other things of my interest. But mostly cat tweeting related to what I’m doing, food, weather and other nonsense. Needless to say I rather follow people that tweet the same way and also the selected good ones about webdesign and weblogging.

The most interesting functionality of this app is the “Recommended” and unlike Twitters recommended to follow this is the recommended to unfollow. Based on the unfollow data collected by ManageFlitter on everyone who has been unfollowed they recommend you who to unfollow from your list. ManageFlitter also tells you how much people have unfollowed you with their service. I have been unfollowed four times so I guess I will be recommended to my followers. No worries they don’t disclose who unfollowed whom, but with other services you can find that out.

I find this a useful application, not one I would use regularly because after a good clean up of your following list you are good to go a couple of months again until it’s time again to take a good look at who you are following.

Since Facebook announced their new feature, the “Like” button a week ago it has already taken over the web. Even here at Forever Geek we are sporting a “Like” button. In my daily website browsing I see more “Like” button then not.

And while Facebook introduced about a billion “Like” button according to their own sayings the Facebook Wall is still one big stream of data. There is no way to organize all incoming feeds on your Wall into categories to keep a clear summary of everything.

This is where the “Like Button” website comes in handy. Developed by Facebook but under another domain. You get an overview of all mayor websites like CNN, New York Times, Mashable, Tech Crunch etc. And the site automatically detects if you are logged in to Facebook and lists your Friends that have liked something on those website.

You can chose to view the sites per categories like News, Information Games, Entertainment, etc. Or you can add your own custom site, for example Forevergeek and it will list your friends who liked it and the most shared entries with the count of people who have shared it. You can see how I blurred three people, those appeared on the list because they are on my friends list and they “Liked” something from YouTube. Beneath them you get YouTube’s most shared videos.

You can choose “Custom” from the drop down list and add your own websites you want to keep track off. I added Forevergeek, YouTube and Vimeo which the latter two being ones that are shared a lot by my Facebook friends. If you have a website of your own and have implemented the “Like” button this would be a simple way to add all those websites and keep track of its Facebook popularity.

I’m definitely bookmarking Like Button and making it part of my daily website viewing. And while my Facebook friends start sharing more websites I’ll keep adding the ones they share the most to keep a clear summary and have a quick overview of what they are currently interested in.

Follow the developer Zach Allia on Twitter to keep up to date with developing. According to this tweet there is a big update coming out tomorrow, I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Recently I noticed more and more people using Gowalla or Foursquare to “check-in” at locations they currently are at. Especially Foursquare is being used a lot here in the Netherlands. A couple of nights ago while playing with the iPhone I decided to download both and give them a try out. First Gowalla and then Foursquare.

Well the first check-in with Gowalla while having lunch at a cafe crashed the app. And truthfully I rather enjoy lunch that restarting the app and trying to check in again. So basically it was an immediately deal breaker for that app. On Monday I decided to try Foursquare, while waiting for the train I checked in at the train station. Then I checked in at the hospital where I was for my appointment. Back at the train station I wanted to check in at Starbucks and then I got tired of it.

I’m holding bags while unzipping my winter jacket to fish out my iPhone form the inner pocket. Opening app, waiting for spots to load and then check-in, etc. etc. And T-Mobile’s 3G is not what we call the fastest network around here. So the whole process takes 2 to 4 minutes and I still have to actually buy my coffee and make it on time to the platform to catch the train.

The next day while at another train station waiting for the tram I had some time so I decided to check-in with Foursquare and while waiting for T-mobile’s 3G to get going I looked around at a couple of weird men standing around and got a bit paranoid. While I haven’t filled out my profile nor added a profile picture I thought that the chance of some weirdo also being on Foursquare is quite possible.

Imagine I use Foursquare everywhere I go and publish my check-ins on Twitter, that does not sound like a good idea. For all pro technology that I am I have found my limit in applications like Gowalla and Foursquare, first because of the time consuming they are and secondly and most importantly, safety.

I am a 28 years old woman and I definitely don’t want strangers to be able to track where I am at all times of day. Especially considering we as humans have routine and habits. So some crazy would be able to soon enough know my schedule and places I frequent a lot. So it would be like facilitating a potential stalker.

While off course having such an online presence like I have now is barely “undercover”, posting my whereabouts online with GPS is plain giving it all away. Nobody needs to know at which supermarket I go regularly or at which stores I shop my clothes and stuff like that. I guess if I hit the Apple store I might post that because who doesn’t like saying “Hey I’m at the Apple store!”.

But for now I’ll keep the sharing to Facebook, Twitter and my peronal weblog.

Dear friends, next time you involve your brand in a social media campaign, you can do well by heeding a simple guideline — make your social media easily apparent on your site.

Example:

The campaign below relies heavily on social media and thus the prominent listing of grandma’s Twitter and social profiles:

On the other hand we have the Samsung Jet site below.

OMG! Animation heavy site! And you have Flickr and Twitter located in a not so happy position down bottom. And you;ll come to realize too that the Flickr page is the press area for hi resolution photo downloads. Isn’t that important? And .. it’s going to be really hard to StumbleUpon something that’s located at the very bottom of your page.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I was watching Jimmy Kimmel interview Lily Allen; you know that British singer chick who is the rave these days? Anyhow, she was narrating how she is using Twitter to promote concerts and shows. She would tweet about hiding tickets in some public place and her fans would go and rush to get them.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I was watching Jimmy Kimmel interview Lily Allen; you know that British singer chick who is the rave these days? Anyhow, she was narrating how she is using Twitter to promote concerts and shows.
While that was definitely a real celebrity tweeting, there has been one too many cases of fakers. I read a funny feature on MSN on these fake celebrity Twitter accounts called Phweeters. Guess who is on the list?

Well we have the well publicized account of the Dalai Lama. This one created a lot of noise, we know how many people look up to His Holiness. Well, it was a phweeter, sorry to say.

Kanye West was also “victimized,” when a Twitter account using his name dissed Stephen Colbert last year. That was funny, and everyone thought it was really Kanye. They say it was a phweeter as well.

I’m a Family Guy fan, and when I saw @Stewie, I just had to laugh. We all know that there is no such person, but seeing this phweeter and reading his tweets can make your day!

I would have to say, though, that the best phweeter in this world is @ChuckNorris_. Seriously, why would anyone want to try and imitate Chuck? I am thinking he’d be roundhouse kicked to death here soon!
