If you share the same sentiments about alcoholic drinks AND if you’re a Star Trek fan, here is a bunch of drinks that will definitely not leave you wanting.  Then again, you just might want to keep on drinking, if only to sustain the whatever illusion you may be under (e.g., that you are actually interacting with species other than our own). 

I found this awesome list at Geekologie, and while it is admittedly more than a year old, the drinks can be considered timeless.  If you’re planning a party any time soon (Halloween is coming up, but you don’t really need to wait that long, do you?), you can kick things up a notch by making these drinks.  I chose several that I think will be the best hits. (Remember: drink moderately.  After all, “once alcohol hits that green blood…”)

Who hasn’t dreamed of carrying around a phaser and exclaiming “Phasers on stun”?  I don’t know about you, but whiskey is good any time!

No Star Trek-themed party will be complete without The Enterprise making an appearance at some point.  Once again, whiskey FTW!

I haven’t had gin in any form or mixture since I had a bad experience with it in college, but hey, Spock’s Mind Meld Mojito?  How can anyone say no to that?

Now I am no expert when it comes to cocktails, but these look simple enough.  Anyone want to drink this weekend?

We don’t post a lot of “Gadgets” on Forevergeek, most of the time their “techie” but not quite “geeky” but in the case of the Star Trek Starship Enterprise Pizza Cutter it’s just a whole new level of eatery awesomeness.

Available at ThinkGeek for the semi-low price of just $25, this piece of art, yeah I said art, will have all our Trekker friends pissed off that your pizza tastes better than theirs (ForeverGeek claim: we can not guarantee that your pizza will taste better).

While $25 is a bit more expensive that your typical pizza cut, this unit is an officially licensed replica of the NCC-1701 Enterprise ship and is made with a laser etched stainless steel blade with solid zinc-alloy chromium plated body and a 4 inch cut diameter.

My only question is why did it take so long for someone to come up with this idea? It’s so simple and makes so much sense, maybe it was a Star Trek licensing issue.

Needless to say, Star Trek fans are absolutely delighted about this development. I suppose that even those who don’t know Klingon will want to see the opera should it be shown again. Before you decide to learn Klingon now, though, you might want to know that there is another “exotic” language that you can pick up: Na’vi.

Die hard fans of James Cameron’s Avatar have probably beaten me to it and have their noses buried in a Na’vi dictionary by now. Just in case you don’t know yet, though, the Na’vi language was invented by Paul Frommer, a linguistics professor at the University of Southern California. (That should add some credibility to the language, right?)

So yeah, while Avatar was not the greatest film, it still offers a unique experience, and it has gathered its own special following – including people who would want to learn Na’vi. Here’s a video tutorial if you’re interested. Not to be mean or anything, but I really wasn’t enticed to learn the language at all after watching the video. Why don’t you watch it and let me know after?

Note: I really wanted this post to be all about using the video to encourage Avatar fans to learn Na’vi, but I have a feeling the video’s not gonna cut it.

Trekkies would already know what “u” means in English, but for the benefit of those of us who do not speak the language, it translates to “universe” or “universal.” That should give us an idea what the opera is all about.

So who would dream up something like this?  It is pretty obvious that only a hardcore Star Trek fan would dare put on such a show, right?  Well, the men behind the opera are Marc Okrand and Floris Schonfeld, who give us a little bit of insight behind their weird brilliant idea in the snippet that the BBC has published.  According to Schonfeld, “The Klingon are known as passionate opera lovers but at the same time very little was known about Klingon opera here so as far as I was concerned that was a very interesting challenge to try and make an authentic, or as authentic something out of that as possible.”

In case you didn’t know it yet, Klingon is a “real” language.  Well, it really is technically a fake language, that is, it was invented for the fictional aliens in Star Trek.  However, the language really took off among certain groups of people, and it is actually being used today.  The chances of you and me actually having people in our immediate circle who speak Klingon fluently are small, but still, the idea of being fluent in the language is pretty cool to me.  (Upon hearing about “u,” I actually considered learning Klingon for a few seconds.)

Unfortunately, the show started on the 10th of September and was only slated to run for three days.  Who knows, the opera might be coming to your neck of the woods in the future?

This train wreck defies explanation, but here’s what I can tell you: take the theme song to Star Trek: The Next Generation, and add a singing Trekkie, in uniform — with lyrics he wrote himself. His voice is actually pretty decent. Watch for the toy Enterprise cameo that’s oh-so-realistic.

It’s because of people like this that geeks are such a clichéd punchline. I don’t know whether to laugh or cringe.

My favorite viral videos are those that have “characters” who may be less “character” and more real life, take for example this Star Trek fan who created his own “shout out” to the major characters of the popular TV series.

With lyrics like “Here they go in a large tin can, give me warp five as fast as you can” I don’t get why this guy hasn’t already landed a jingle deal.

Enough babbling, here’s the video with real life “special effects” and a decently authentic looking Trekker outfit.

Zachary Quinto had to glue his fingers together to perform the Vulcan salute when he played Spock.

I feel good to know this because I don’t come even close to perform the Vulcan salute, I would have to glue my fingers too to be able to.

I wonder if there are Trekkies who don’t know some of these facts? Or maybe know some obscure facts that isn’t widely known.

Anyhow, even if it has been several days since this date, I thought it would be fun to point out how you could celebrate the life of one of the greatest – if not THE greatest – writers who lived. Geekosystem has compiled a pretty cool list of ways by which you can celebrate the bard’s birthday. While it’s a bit late for that, I found out some pretty interesting links between geek culture and William Shakespeare.

For one, did you know that Star Trek has been influenced greatly by Shakespeare? You might have noticed that Captain Jean Luc Picard had a habit of quoting from Shakespeare’s work. Many Star Trek titles are also influenced by him. And, yes, the great William Shatner was trained as a classic Shakespearean actor. If that’s not incentive for you to grab one of Shakespeare’s play, then I don’t know what is!

Another icon linked to Shakespeare is Neil Gaiman. Who is not familiar with his Sandman comics? Well, the news is that he is a huge Shakespeare fan. As an aside – a friend recently sold her complete set of Sandman for dirt cheap. I shouldn’t have hesitated and grabbed it!

For people who scoff at the thought of “Shakespearean English,” this might just be your chance to expand your vocabulary (and horizons). Some of the most respected geeks held Shakespeare in high esteem. That’s saying something, isn’t it?

I’m talking, of course, about the handheld computer of choice for crew members onboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. A few simple taps and gestures were all it took to manipulate this powerful personal tablet, and an enterprising (had to do it) fan out there has brought us one step closer to having a PADD of our own.

“Captain’s Log” is a simple little iPad app that doesn’t really do anything all that new or innovative — and that’s beside the point, anyway. At its core, Captain’s Log is just a skin for your iPad that makes it look more like a Star Trek PADD. And therein lies its genius.

A few simple taps and gestures are all it takes to make the iPad your very own command center, particularly if you’re a social media power user. Captain’s Log accesses your Twitter and Facebook accounts, as well as your email, allowing you to maintain constant contact.

It’s hardly the first app ever to do any of this stuff, but it’s definitely the geekiest. And it gets extra points in my book for assigning a star date to your posts.

Captain’s Log is not yet available on the App Store, so there’s no word yet on pricing, but one assumes it will become available any time now, probably to coincide with the Friday release of the iPad.

My wife and I had our first child a month ago, and I’ve been on the constant search for cool things to do with my baby. See for dads – at least for me – the baby portion of life really isn’t very eventful. After all, I’m not the baby factory, and so I’m not going to be the food source. Instead, I occasionally hang out with him on the couch, change a diaper or 12, but otherwise, it’s just not very exciting. I can’t take him to his first ballgame or anything, and it’s not like we can go check out Avatar with a stroller, so instead, I come up with way to entertain myself. Like these outfits above.

ThinkGeek is a great place for all things geeky, and these Star Trek Onesies are the hot ticket. For those of you without kids, these are the outfits a baby wears 24/7. They provide easy access for diapers, and they’re easier to clean than a pair of pants and a shirt. Plus they look cute. So throw in the fact that these are Star Trek models, and you’ve got a great looking kid on your hands. Now I wouldn’t put my child in a red shirt – that’s bad karma – but the other three are perfect. At $15.99 each they’re a touch pricey for baby clothes, but if you’ve got a convention you’re planning to attend, this should be your next purchase.

Next up is the NomNomNom bib for $7.99. True story: my kid actually says “nom” when he eats. I consider it his first words. Well, unless you count clicks and whistles. Anyways, this bib is also filed under “super cute” and is a must for any geek dad like myself. In fact, I’m going to order one right now.

A few days ago, I brought you the glory that is the Marvel HD television lineup. That was exciting, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want a television with their favorite character printed on it? Oh wait, you wouldn’t? Well then sir or madam, I do not want to be your friend.

But now there’s more. Urban Collector has just introduced Marvel and Star Trek keyboards and mice for the masses. That’s right, now you can get your very own keyboard and/or mouse with Wolverine, Iron Man or the U.S.S. Enterprise printed right across the face. Excited yet? No? Seriously, you’re being kind of a jerk.

Admittedly, these are a little bit busy, and the Star Trek model looks like it would give me a tumor if I looked at it too often.But, they are full wired USB keyboards with a numeric keypad, low profile keys, a USB port and function keys, so what else do you want? Oh, a price? I get it, now you’re being nice to me. I see how it is. Well, the keyboards go for $45.99, but if you want a matching mouse (and let’s just admit it, you do.) get ready to shell out another $26.99 for the wireless wonder. That’s right, the mice are wireless and have a scroll wheel. What? You want a matching mouse pad? Sorry, I can’t help you with that one. Maybe if you were a little bit nicer I might’ve Googled it or something, but now I’m just bitter.

Naturally, I have Think Geek to thank for this burst of inspiration. These tribbles are a species of their own, and are purported to calm the nerves of any humanoid. The best thing about them is that they are born pregnant (whaat?) so you can have a lot of them in no time at all.

Seriously, though, these fur balls are cute little things that will be handy at times like these. They look like, well, balls of fur – and that is always a guaranteed way to relax. They come at $14.99 to $19.99, and will even interact with you when you play with them! The package includes:

I love meerkats (I’ve even adopted one at London Zoo for the year), so this pair dressed up in Star Trek outfits just had to be shared.

Kirk is of course wearing gold, the original command colour. Spock is in Science blue. They wear Federation emblems proudly on their chests and have their ranking stripes on their sleeves. Spock (unusually for a meerkat) has those classic slanting eyebrows.

As with my non-trekkie meerkats, hind legs and tails are wired with pipe cleaners to allow them to self stand.

They’re unbelievably inexpensive, too, with the first one being £2 (about $3) and then others ordered at the same time just £1 (about 70 cents). I’d charge more, but there you go. They can even be knitted to request, including other key characters.

The Enterprise isn’t included, though.

Check out the Icon Factory’s latest collection of icons. Star Trek features a modest selection of icons, plus a few wallpapers (a bit boring IMO but there you go, that’s probably Paramount licensing issues). There’s also a special revamp of the OS X Dock that you can try out.

The icons are pretty easy to swap but if you want to use the Dock or change some hard-to-reach icons in Mac OS X then you’ll need to grab CandyBar first.
