I have to have at least two trips in a year to maintain my sanity. Otherwise, work would just burn me out. I am not a particularly fussy person but if there is one thing that would convince me about staying in a hotel or resort, it is the fact that they have free wireless Internet access in the rooms. Perhaps some of you are the same? Well, you will be interested to hear about the list that PC World came up with: the best hotels for the geek traveler.

They have a total of nine in their list, here are the most appealing to me.

Hotel Gansevoort
Located in the meatpacking district of New York, rooms don’t come cheap here. But then, you get free WiFi, 42-inch LCD TVs, CD players, alarm clocks with iPod docks, in room safes, and Wii consoles by request. Can’t beat that, can you?

Seattle Hotel Monaco
Considered a boutique hotel, this is relatively low-tech compared to many. The main selling point for me is their Guitar Hero social hour, from 5:00-6:00 pm. Perfect time to relax before going out for the night!

Peninsula Tokyo
Of course, we can’t talk about hi-tech without mentioning Japan. This hotel has all the hi-tech amenities that one can ever want. From nail dryers to fax machines to espresso makers to heated toilets – ultimate hi-tech luxury!

Pod Hotel
For the budget traveler in NYC, this hotel sounds perfect. Rooms start at less than $100 but you get iPod docking stations, LCD TVs, and their Pod Community Blog, which is a veritable treasure trove of information.

Check out the whole list here.

Most specially if he needed to be two places at one time. I think it’s a good thing too, because if you head on to Radio Shack today Rovio is on sale for roughly around US$130. Not available for online purchase though, but if you show up at many of their shops in the US you’d see that Rovio IS on sale. I’m guessing we’d see Rovio II any time soon. I have been planning on this for months and now that I am actually here, it seems a bit surreal. But you know what? I am having the time of my life. I just realized something though? I seem to be doing things a bit differently from the rest of the people here are doing. Here are some of my observations.

One, the first thing that I did when I was done checking in was to see the farthest that the WiFi signal would reach. Obviously, I figured it out pretty quickly as I am online now and posting, right?

Two, my Tweeter has been busy since I left early this morning for the airport. Sometimes I used my phone, sometimes I used my netbook. But from the airport to the ferry boat, I have been Tweeting the hours away.

Three, I actually found myself a nifty gadget, a USB modem that allows me to connect to the Internet wherever I may be, as long as there is a mobile phone signal. I got it because I know how WiFi availability is so unreliable outside the city and the prospect of having no Internet for a full work week was just too unpleasant.

Four, my camera has been used a lot - and it’s the just the first day! Now you may say that this is not unusual, right? I have to say, though, the main thought in my mind as I take pictures is how nice they would look in my blog….

Enough said. And I guess that’s what geeks do while on vacation. What do you do?

While this development is much commendable I know a lot of strict WIFI use will be set in place. I haven’t read any material on how security is on a WIFI-enabled flight. Is there filtering? Is there monitoring? Is big brother logging things you do? These and a lot more concerns have not yet reached pubic view just yet BUT am hoping that policies are published real soon.
