Although wireless network protocols are still behind wired ones, and will probably stay that way for a long time, this latest router from NEC, called ATermWR8400N, pushes the limits a bit further and aims to deliver speeds up to 300mbps (in theory).
The biggest problem with this router is that the technology it uses is the second draft of the N protocol (IEEE802.11n), which means that it could still have some problems.
From my personal experience, and as the owner of a draft wireless network card, I would rather wait out until the N protocol is “finished” and approved by all.
My card, despite numerous updates, and patches, never manages to be as stable as others. The connection simply drops randomly after random periods of time, and sometimes it doesn’t even reconnect unless I force a “repair connection”.
Still, if the speeds of the wireless network come anywhere close 300, even if it’s only 260mbps, I have to admit that it’s very impressive.
