5 Nerdy TV Shows You Should Be Watching Right Now

June 3, 2015 by Noemi Leave a Comment

nerdy tv shows 2015

Watching TV shows is probably one of the most popular past-times today, and when it comes to nerdy shows, there is no lack of excellent choices.

Here is my list of TV shows that any nerd would love to binge on.

Nerdy TV shows 2015

Halt and Catch Fire

Halt and Catch Fire is the computer nerd’s TV show. If AMC’s synopsis doesn’t get your interest, then you might want to question your computer nerdism.

Set in the early 1980s, the series dramatizes the personal computing boom through the eyes of a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy whose innovations directly confront the corporate behemoths of the time. Their personal and professional partnership will be challenged by greed and ego while charting the changing culture in Texas’ Silicon Prairie.

Why should you watch Halt and Catch Fire? Computers, genius engineers/programmers who go all wonky on you, and a walk down computing memory lane.

Season 2 has just started, so if you haven’t seen season 1, you can still easily catch up.

Silicon Valley

If Halt and Catch Fire focuses on decades past, Silicon Valley is all but a parody of what’s happening today in, well, Silicon Valley. Present day startups, venture capitalists, and stereotypes – they’re all in the show, and it’s funny, too.

I think some details are rather (startup tech scene) insidery, but if you’re a nerd in that sense, then you’ll have no problem getting it.

With only 2 episodes left till the second season ends, Silicon Valley is the perfect lazy, humorous weekend marathon watching.

Elementary

Hardcore Cumberbatch Sherlock fans might disagree with me, but I love this modern take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation. The combination of Jonny Lee Miller (Sherlock) and Lucy Liu (Watson) is as quirky as can be without taking away from the legendary detective skills of Sherlock. Additionally, the supporting cast adds to the story without totally taking the spotlight away from the two detectives.

Season 3 has just finished airing, and reports say that CBS has renewed the series for a 4th season. If you haven’t seen Elementary, go for!

Orphan Black

Orphan Black may very well be my favorite TV show right now. Clones – and all the complications that brings, science, suspense, action, and a bit of personal drama here and there.

It’s been said once, and I’ll say it as many times as possible – Tatiana Maslany, who plays the female clones, totally deserves all the awards she has received. If you haven’t seen the series, watch out for Helena. You’ll know what I mean when you see her.

This season ends on June 20, but there’s going to be a season 4, thank goodness.

Continuum

From the get-go, I loved the concept of Continuum. A detective from 2077 finds herself unexpectedly transported to the past (our time). Not only does she feel lost (who wouldn’t?) but she finds out that she’s not the only person from the future who was transported and that she has to go after those criminals.

As with all time travel stories, Continuum poses a lot of questions that time travel nerds will love to discuss.

Did I mention her awesome suit?

So these are the 5 nerdy TV shows I recommend that you watch this year. Do you have your own recommendations?
