There are so many mobile games that can keep one off the streets these days, but there is something about tower defense games that keep you coming back.
As I often say, there is always time (and storage space) for another tower defense game. Back in the day, I had my favorite games on this sort on the PC.
Today, I play games mostly on the iPad – which I’m pretty sure is the case with most of you – and I thought I’d share some of the best mobile tower defense games I’d recommend any day. They’ve been around for a while, but they’re still worth playing today.
You’ll notice that Plants Vs. Zombie is not part of this list – although I have to admit PVZ2 is still installed on my iPad – because everyone knows about it.
1. Fieldrunners 2
The game that started it all – Fieldrunners. The second installment is just as good, if not better, with 25 levels, more than 20 weapons at each level, and more than 30 different enemies. If you like hordes of enemies coming at you, then this will satisfy.
It’s available for iOS, Android, and Blackberry.
2. TowerMadness 2
TowerMadness 2 is a huge improvement over the original game in terms of graphics and additional convenient features. That being said, I still go back to the original game now and then. This is perhaps the most re-playable tower defense game for me.
The game has 40 levels with 16 new alien enemies. It can be saved in the Cloud for multi-device players, and it’s in-app purchases don’t get in the way of playing.
Aliens, weapons that range from old-school cannons to futuristic pulse cannons, and sheep that you have to protect. What more can you want?

3. Kingdom Rush
Kingdom Rush is another classic tower defense game that will sucker a newbie into the genre. Its maker, Ironhide Game Studio, has since released two other installments – Kingdom Rush Frontiers and Kingdom Rush Origins. I have to say that the first game is still the best. Maybe it’s the nostalgia it brings.
This is a great game for even younger players as it’s relatively easy, and with the cute (for lack of a better word) graphics, it’s appropriate for everyone. If you want more challenge, just select the more difficult levels.
Oh, did I mention awesome boss levels? Prepare to tap furiously…

4. Bloons TD 5
Monkeys! Balloons! Monkeys popping ballons!
What can be more fun?
Bloons TD 5 is another game that can be played at any age, although younger players might have a difficult time of it. The graphics are kid-friendly, but the levels can get rather difficult. I guess I don’t have to say how much time I have spent playing this game.
Here’s a sweet deal you can’t pass up on. The game is free on mobile for Easter, so go get it NOW!
5. Prime World: Defenders
The first thing that comes to mind when seeing Prime World: Defenders is “Wow, the graphics!” This relatively new tower defense game has the added feature of collecting magic cards which are upgradable, making you even more powerful. With this new feature, you’ll have to exert a little more effort in planning and executing your strategy, especially since the collectable cards change at random for each level.
