One of the biggest problems with the gaming industry right now is that we are experiencing market saturation regarding certain titles. For example, Assassin’s Creed. They may be cool games (meh), but we are at a point when, between handhelds and consoles, we are getting 8 games a freaking year from that series. Apparently, some companies don’t understand how that sucks the magic out of a title by watering it down. But on the other extreme, what about the amazing games that need video game sequels but never got them? Enough with the Assassin’s Creed and COD games. How about working on some sequels for these 6 gems? Is that too much to ask? Apparently it is, yes.
You are not going to find many Nintendo games on this list. Why? Because normally, when Nintendo hits the nail on the head once, they then beat it into the ground until you cannot see it anymore. But there is one example of one amazing game on the N64 that blew people’s minds, but is one of those video game sequels we never got, and none of us can understand why. That game was Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.
While the gameplay may be a bit dated by now, the screwing with the player’s mind by breaking the fourth wall thing was genius, and why this hasn’t been done again is beyond me. So much potential.
Shadow of the Colossus
I know there would be a risk of ruining this brilliant game with a sequel, but can we be honest with one another for a second? Shadow of the Colossus was one of the best games ever made, and though one could ask: how would a sequel work? We could easily go back in time and PLAY one of the majestic beasts. In one way, I can understand leaving a classic a classic. But in another way, I want to experience that feeling again.
Nothing can quite compare to that first time you saw a colossi walking at you, lumbering like some tower. I want to feel that again.
I know, perhaps this game is another one that should be left alone for how artistic and awesome is it, but honestly, I long to go back into the paws of Okami and experience that beautiful, hand-painted world one more time. I know some people want to tell me Okami got a DS upgrade sequel, but come on. A sequel doesn’t count if no one played it.
I demand a console sequel. We just need the dude who made it to stop making Bayonetta games for a second, which seems unlikely after the success of the first two.
Okay, I get it, the lead dies in the game, so where do you go? I get that, also, if you need a spoiler alert for game that old, you don’t deserve one. Thing is, Heavenly Sword was like God of War with a female, and the gameplay was a blast. Yeah, some people hated all the QTE’s, but they are pretty much in every game now so some gamers just have to deal with it.
Hell, this game even got a CG movie it was that good, but no part 2? Again, I respect leaving a modern classic alone, but this game feels like it needs a few more chapters, to be honest.
Red Dead Redemption
Jesus Rockstar! I know you guys like to make sure games are polished and pure before they are even announced, but you are close to dropping the ball on this one. You made what could be argued was the best game of the last generation (outside of Last Of Us), you made grown men cry, and then nothing.
Well, a zombie DLC, but then nothing.
This game will inevitably get a sequel announced, but can they hurry up and do it so I can be a cowboy again? Please?? I know we can’t play as modern John, so how about a prequel to when he was a badass?
PS, this news just dropped today. WOOHA!
Beyond Good and Evil
You know what? I am just tossing my hands on this one. I know it is not happening, so I should just give up on my dream, right now. Speaking of Beyond Good and Evil….
