6 Geek Movies That Deserve a Reboot
First things first. Yes, I know most reboots suck ass and ruin movies. I know this. But I have seen a handful that prove that a good reboot can breathe new life into a movie. Look at Evil Dead. The movie reboot was so astounding it caused execs to go ahead and agree to an (awesome) show and more movies. Though it is a rare example, it CAN happen. And if it can happen for Evil Dead, why not some badass geek movies from when we were all kids? Why not breathe some new life into those (without ruining them)? Here are six geek movies that deserve a kickass reboot.
Please note, if any of these get rebooted and suck, I am SO sorry. Also, if any of these are being rebooted and I just don’t know it, my apologies there as well. I deliberately picked movies I have heard nothing about for years. So here goes my geek movies reboot wishlist.
A talking robot that is all sassy and funny and sentient. Yes, there may be a lot of movies like this now (Wall-E, Chappie), but Johnny-5 from Short Circuit came first, and if they rebooted the series and built and actual robot and not some cheesy CG thing, the nostalgia alone would bring in millions.
Just please leave the crappy sequel out of it. We like to pretend that never happened.
Oh come on. A movie about swordsman who cannot die unless their heads are cut off? That shit is SO badass I am barely even capable of typing right now. Again, as long as they skip the second shitty film and just focus on the story of the first movie (there can be only ONE), a Highlander reboot could be part Game of Thrones, part Skyrim, and all fucking badass.
Also, please use Queen theme song again as it was perfect. Thank you.
We ALL know Dune was made wrong. David Lynch is awesome and it was a very art house pick for director, but it just wasn’t the Dune the fans of the book knew. Many wanted to see Jodorowsky’s Dune, and with good reason: it sounded amazing and epic. But again, did not sound like Dune.
How about a Dune reboot that actually follows the fantastic book and possibly sets up a full movie series? Seems like they could nail it now if they tried. So try!
A movie about a society where people are killed off when they become 30. It’s perfect. It’s like what social media is already doing. making old people obsolete. But in this movie, a few people find out what happens when they reach that age and they do their best to escape from their crappy, dystopian fate.
Few saw it, but those who did it have carried the idea with them for years. The movie tech is right at the place where they could tell this stellar story, but match it up with the visuals and flair it deserved in the first place.
Yes, Krull. One of the cheesiest and GREATEST fantasy movies of all time. Also, let it be know, the first time MANY OF US saw Liam Neeson. This movie is absurd and over-the-top and for that very reason, in every geek’s movie collection. When it comes to geek movie reboots, this one would shine brighter than most because the following of fans are such a cult group who have adored this movie for years.
Plus, that weapon. Come on.The Glaive in Krull will forever be THE BEST geek weapon outside the Lightsaber. Yes, I just said that. Deal with it.
Escape from New York
Again, PLEASE forget the super shitty sequel that sucked monkey balls. Escape from New York was dystopian futures at their most bleak and watchable. Add to that, Kurt Russell with an eye patch and you have what is basically Fallout, the movie. A lone wanderer trying to escape an inhospitable land so he can ensure he lives a longer life. Jesus, you could even cast Russell again as the demon hasn’t aged since the first movie.
Keep in mind, this spot was going to be Blade Runner, but Ryan Gosling just announced he will be starring in part 2. Wow, did NOT see that day coming.
