8 Game of Thrones Characters to Watch Out For in Season 2

Game of Thrones Week

The second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is fast approaching, and I bet that you are also on the edge of your seat waiting for it. To get us all worked up even more, we have dubbed this week as Game of Thrones Week – as you may already have noticed with Robin’s Westerosian breakfast post.

In line with that, I thought I’d list down some of the Game of Thrones characters to watch out for in season 2. As they say, everyone’s going to die at some point anyway, so might as well pay attention to them now.

[Possible spoiler alert!]

Daenerys Targaryen

There is no doubt about Daenerys being a character to watch out for. By default, she belongs to this list! From a seemingly frail young girl being bullied by her older brother, she married dothraki Khal Drogo, and transformed to become the Mother of Dragons. Grit with heart is what comes to mind every time I think of Daenerys. Oh, did I already mention dragons?

Whether or not you have read the second book of the series, I am sure you will be in for even more of a Dany treat in the second season of Game of Thrones.

Arya Stark

Arya Stark

Arya is that spunky little girl who has always had a mind of her own. Even when times were relatively peaceful and she was “sheltered”, she went against the norm. Cast into the world on her own, Arya is going to show more of her survivor side – something that cannot be said of other members in her family, who seem to call death upon themselves.

Melisandre of Asshai

Melisandre of Asshai

Melisandre gives me the creeps whenever I read about her. The Red Priestess has got the other Baratheon brother (Stannis) under her thumb, though others are not as enamored by her. I am not sure how the HBO crew will treat her character, but she is definitely someone who will make a splash – a big red one – in season 2.

Brienne of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth

Another strong lady – literally. She is a knight with the heart of a woman, and she (arguably) keeps her word better than a man. She lends her service to several people in the series, and she will be making her debut in the second season. George R.R. Martin describes her physical features as ungainly as one possible can, and I think that the casting crew did Brienne some justice in the sense that the actress looks better than I would have imagined. No matter how she looks, this Game of Thrones character is still going to make an impact on the audience.

Davos Seaworth

Davos Seaworth

Lest you think that I am picking out female characters on purpose, here’s a male Game of Thrones character that will get your attention. Davos Seaworth is also making his debut in the second season. He used to be a smuggler, but is now in the service of Stannis Baratheon. I love the solidness of his character and how loyal he is. I also think that Liam Cunningham has the perfect look for Davos Seaworth.

Craster

Craster

Craster is a minor character in the story, but he is definitely one of the most colorful. For one, he is a wilding. He lives north of the Wall and is the son of a Night’s Watch guy and a wilding woman. How much more colorful can you get?

I will leave it to you to find out just how interesting – some think disgusting – this character is. Suffice it to say that while his role may not be that huge, he is someone that will add even more flavor to Game of Thrones. Whether that flavor is pleasant or not, you tell me.

Samwell Tarly

Samwell Tarly

The steward of the Night’s Watch has shown himself to be a good hearted person. Is he going to survive the winter or not? We will not find out in the second season for sure, but this self-proclaimed coward is going to surprise himself and everyone else.

Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister

Everyone loves the Imp. The viewers at least. His wit more than makes up for his stature, and there is something honorable in him in spite of his crassness and other proclivities. I think the TV series has actually tempered the edge of Tyrion’s character, but that remains to be seen in the next season. One thing is for sure: Tyrion is going to continue to be one of the most popular characters in this series.

For sure, this list is totally biased, so why don’t you let me know what you think about it? Who would you include/exclude?
