Amazing Las Vegas returned to the Las Vegas Convention Center once again this past week. Packed with fans ready to escape the heat while dressing up as their favorite characters between endless panels and signings, Amazing Las Vegas 2018 had no shortage of fun to be experienced over all 3 days.
When I wasn’t walking the floor taking pictures of cosplayers (back to them in a minute), I got the chance to chat with a number of independent creators about their projects, even scoring an original sketch of one of my favorite X-Men, Kitty Pryde (with Lockheed) from a very talented young artist, Cazel Rulloda. I took in the panel with the star of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix, Charlie Cox, snatched up a few autographs from iconic creators like Jason Aaron, Jim Starlin, Ron Lim, Rob Liefeld, and Skottie Young. I then spent the rest of the show fighting off the urge to buy just about anything within reach (I failed).
Of course, at night, you have to party – it is Las Vegas after all. The official Saturday night after party at the Nerd in downtown Las Vegas, just off of Fremont Street, didn’t disappoint. With a mix of elements that include a full bar, video games, movie and tv prop displays, a pool hall, a bowling alley, and a room that just held rap battles all night, the Nerd is a one of a kind drink spot for anyone in cosplay or anyone who wants to drink in a fun, unpretentious atmosphere can find a home. Sure, there’s a Bitcoin ATM in the room, but don’t let that distract you from the geeky themed drinks, a life-sized Jabba the Hutt, and all the comic books lining the bathroom walls, just in case you need to catch up on some old X-Factor or Iron Man stories.
But of course, the most visual aspect of any con is measured in the quality of its cosplayers. So here’s a collection of some of my favorites from the weekend…
