Apple embraces the casual gaming market

Although Apple has never been one to show much interest for games, it appears that that might soon change, as they are releasing more games for the iPod (with video) and have approached EA about games for the upcoming iPhone.

Regarding the iPhone, the Vice President of EA said:

“We have been talking to Apple about games on (the iPhone),” Lasky says. “We see a lot of the technology that we’ve utilized on the iPod side being incorporated into the iPhone.”

Right now you can download various classic titles for your iPod like Pacman, Tetris, Sudoku, Bejeweled and etc. And in a near future, we may begin to see less casual titles emerging, specially when the iPhone comes out. If things are done correctly, not only can Apple steal a slice of the cellphone market but also a part of the portable consoles market.
