Apple Photo iPod

Apple also announced the very very very longly rumored photo iPod. It has a 2 inch full color screen (up to 65,000 colors), and a 40gb or 60gb hard drive for $499 or $599, respectively. Both versions also include the Dock.

You sync your photos through iTunes, but it can import albums from iPhoto or Adobe Elements and Adobe Album. There is an included A/V cable for viewing the photos and slideshows on a TV or projector.

The battery life has been boosted to 15 hours, probably because of the slightly larger size (6 oz. now, as opposed to 5.6 for the 4g and the Photo iPod is about 1/4″ thicker).

You can also view album cover art for all of your MP3’s and AAC files, which is very cool.

Unfortunately you can’t save pictures directly from your camera to the iPod, which is what I was really looking forward to. Instead you have to transfer them to the PC, and then the iPod is just basically a portable digital photo album. Still pretty cool…
