Arm Your Legos

It’s funny how things come full circle.

When I was born, my parent’s had a friend of theirs who had a child around the same time named Tara. We’ve kept in touch over the years, off and on, and now we’re Facebook Buddies. Granted, I haven’t seen her since I was an infant, but it’s kinda neat.

When I got a little older, I got into Legos. I loved them so much that I amassed this mammoth collection of bricks that my parents ended up keeping in a large cardboard box in my room. Later, as I got older, I sold all of my Legos so that I could buy my first comic books, mostly because I felt like I had to “grow up.”

Recently, I got back into the bricks. I’ve been slowly building a collection of Lego Star Wars sets, including the Death Star, and I’ve got them displayed around my office. And what about Tara? A few years back she met a guy, got married and moved to Denmark where they both work for Lego. Small world.

Turns out, there’s a whole community of Lego fans, known as the AFOL or Adult Fans of Lego. But as adults, they want different things from their Lego sets than most kids, including decent weapons. Enter Brickarms, a company dedicated to making small plastic weapons that fit in the hands of your favorite Lego characters. They’ve got some pretty cool weapons here, including the multiple grenade launcher pictured above, rapiers, paintball guns and more. They just released an Army Men set full of green plastic guns made to turn your Lego men into Army Men. These parts aren’t expensive, either, with individual weapons running around $1-$2 each.

I’m not sure if I’ll end up getting a set of not, because for the meantime, I’m good with my Star Wars set. But if I do get to that point, Brickarms is my first destination.
