When all the characters seem jaded in attitude, it is a nice surprise that as a reader, I do not feel the same way. Ellis seems to have a handle on mercenary attitudes, twisted with displays of compassion that only become apparent later.
Nation-X promises to be one of the best directions of the X-Men for a long time. It may only have been made possible by the Dark Reign, but purely on the basis of the last few issues, I think it far outshines it.
Comics are not limited as much as the music industry is, the ‘big labels’ of comics demand new and innovative creations, of both original characters and re-interpretations of (probably second-string) characters. Then again, if it ain’t broke….
