We might never see the likes of Battlestar Galactica on TV again, but there is no doubt that we will keep seeing creations by enthusiasts. Whether it’s video or art or LEGO, we shall have to be somewhat content with what we can get. And with this Battlestar Valkyrie in LEGO creation, one cannot complain much – except for that fact that it belongs to another person.
The Battlestar Valkyrie in LEGO is the baby of Garry King, who has certainly etched his name in the annals of LEGO and Battlestar Galactica history. He says that he based the ship on various images he found on the Internet. He also stretched his imagination a bit, using what can be seen in the move “The Plan“. Here’s a look from underneath.
I do think that of all the images Garry posted on MOCpages, this is the one I like best. It’s all in the fiery background, of course.
With the “few” details that Garry was able to make out from his sources, he outlines the following in his Battlestar Valkyrie in LEGO model:
- 16 small dual mounted turrets
- 35 heavy dual turrets capable of firing missiles
- Unknown number of point defence guns
- at least 6 ship-to-ship missiles silos
And how long do you think it took him to complete this masterpiece? Something like five months, although of course the work was broken up in that period. If you’re wondering how strong the Battlestar Valkyrie in LEGO is, it should be able to withstand a little bit of handling. Garry made sure that the piece holds together by adding an 8-stud wide x 6-plate high and 24-meter long strap down the middle of the ship. Yup, this ship has a backbone. Literally.
Oh, and did I already say that this baby weighs 111 pounds?
