Game of Thrones season 7 may have only just begun and winter has definitely come, but it didn’t deter fans from lining up around the block daily to step into the world of Westeros.
With throngs of geeks filling every nook and cranny of the San Diego Convention Center, it’s sometimes hard to remember that there is so much more to be found outside the con, in the streets of the city, around nearly every corner. Here we explore what we found most compelling and fun beyond the con during San Diego Comic-Con 2017.
With a variety of props and costumes on display between a number of augmented reality experiences that set attendees at the meeting table at Winterfell or sent them into battle against White Walkers armed with only a dragon glass dagger, it excited the hardcore fans even more, making them beg for another Sunday’s dose of Game of Thrones, even if that meant Comic-Con would be over. HBO even had a massive table set up in the middle of the room in the shape of Westeros, with carved wooden pieces shaped in the insignia of each house, representing the position of their armies. Thankfully, there were no big spoilers to be found, unless you’re the type to be a few seasons behind (never a good idea at Comic-Con).
Game of Thrones season 7 continues on HBO for an all-too-short season every Sunday through the end of August 2017.
