Black is the new White?

Ever since the iPod Nano, Apple has been introducing more and more “black” versions of their products. First it spread to the iPod with Video, and just a while ago to their top line Macbooks. Many complain about the last product, due to the price you pay just for the black coating being around $100, or even more in some blogs, but I’m no price genius so I don’t what reasons are behind this.

In any case, making the top model black might give people the impression that black is slowly turning into the new white. I don’t know what the ratio of white vs black iPods is, but two friends and myself own black iPods, one owns a white one, and a former teacher of mine is thinking of buying the next gen iPod in black also.

Today I walked into a store that sold, among other things, iPods, and the ratio of boxes between the Black and White versions seemed to a little unbalanced, leaning a bit in favor of the black models.

On the contrary, and possibly in a similar move, Sony has recently decided to launch the white PSP in Europe due to the popularity of it’s sales during the first launch (apparently some European White PSPs made their way onto the shelves of many stores but it was never announced officially).

So, which is the coolest for you? Black or White?

Quite frankly, I think it’s a matter of taste, and it depends on the gadget. I preffer a White PSP to a black one, however I prefer a black iPod to a white one. Both are great colors in my opinion (yes I know, they aren’t really colors in more technical terms) and I think that both of them have proven that they can co-exist perfectly well.

I say: forget about green, red and blue, black and white are the new modern colors.
