Boot Camp Alternative - Virtualization

Here is another way to run Windows on an Intel Mac. It is Parallels Workstation. Rather than having to reboot into the second OS, this application allows you to run it along with OS X (think Virtual-PC).

Parallels is proud to launch the Beta program the first virtualization solution specifically designed to work with Intel-powered Apple computers! Parallels Workstation 2.1 Beta for Mac OS X is NOT simply a “dual-boot” solution; rather, it empowers users the ability to use Windows, Linux and any other operating system at the same time as Mac OS X, enabling users to enjoy the comfort of their Mac OS X desktop while still being able to use critical applications from other OSes.

For those of us who may only need to use Windows for testing a website in IE, this would be a much better solution than fully partitioning the drive and having to reboot to access the Windows OS.

This also supports more than Windows XP.

Use any version of Windows (3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT, XP, 2003), any Linux distribution, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2, eComStation, or MS-DOS in secure virtual machines running alongside Mac OS X

Some have already begun speculating that this type of virtualization will be available when Boot Camp is integrated into OS X 10.5.
