Brink is Here. Ready to Play?
A final trailer has been released for Brink, the new IP from Bethesda Softworks and Splash Damage, in anticipation of its launch. Which coincidentally, happens to be today. Brink hopes to redefine the “online universe” genre for the first-person shooter generation.
It’s all too rare that a new franchise is launched in the video game world these days, as most publishers find it easier to put their faith in sequels of past hits. So anytime a new triple-A property makes it to stores, that’s cause for celebration in my book.
As I’ve explained before, Brink is a cross between an MMO and an FPS, allowing you to drop-in/drop-out of its storyline campaign solo or online with friends. Its art direction is stylish, with caricature-like humans that feature nearly infinite customization, and bright, outdoor terrains set amid a gleaming, futuristic floating city. Its breakneck-paced fights include cool parkour moves that are easy to pull off yet look crazy cool in the heat of battle. And its storyline — about an eco-friendly experimental civilization that becomes a haven for humanity after Earth undergoes an apocalyptic change — is all too timely.
Bethesda was kind enough to send along a review copy of Brink, and I look forward to diving in to provide you with a full review once I’ve had a chance to put it through its paces.
Will I see you there?
