Cheapo MP3 Players from Evergreen
Engadget reports that Japan’s Evergreen has come up with cheap MP3 players that retail for the equivalent of US$ 8.50. The DN-2000 MP3 is supposed to be able to play up to five hours on a single alkaline AAA cell, and can support SD/MMC storage of up to 1GB. Sounds good, right? Well, not really. Aside from the fact that the player looks like crap, the features are not so cool, either.
Got one as a freebie with a Canon digicam purchase a month back, and I can say the player does indeed suck. It doesn’t have a playlist feature at all, and you go back to track one everytime you power up the unit. The plastic is, well, plasticky and the finish tends to peel off.
Probably good enough as an SD/MMC reader, though.
