Portal and Portal 2 have inspired many a fan film, but this one looks like something very unique. It’s just a trailer for now, but it distinguishes itself from the pack with a distinctive art house vibe.
The totalitarian control, mad self-aware computer, and illegal science experiments depicted in the Portal games is perfect fodder for storytelling, and amateur filmmakers everywhere are rising to the challenge. Aperture: Lab Ratt tells the story of Doug Rattmann, a former Aperture Science employee who was forced by GLaDOS’ into being one of her earliest test subjects. Though never seen in either game, players know him as “Ratman,” the former resident who left scribblings on the walls of the Aperture complex, including the famous “the cake is a lie.”
From this minute-long trailer, it looks as though Lab Ratt tells Rattmann’s story, touching on all of the various things we know about him from the games. The production company behind the film, Synthetic PictureHaus, is currently seeking funding to complete the project. Follow them on Facebook for the latest news about the film.
