Sometimes a concept comes along for a comic book that is so original you have to just stop and take notice. That is just what we did with Paper Rock Scissors and Stuff War. A comic that takes the concept of rock, paper, scissors (the school yard game) and turns it into the Game of Thrones style epic it should be. Although we have taken notice of Luanga Nuwami’s work before, here he has gone and done it again, this time with something completely different. Hell, that cover art alone could be an awesome metal album cover. This book is kinda like that. Rock Paper Scissors, the heavy metal version.
Taking the idea of the old hand game (I throw rock, it crushes scissors etc), Rock Paper Scissors N’ Stuff Wars takes that concept and asks, what if each party represented was not a part of the hand, but an individual being with its own thoughts and motives and drive? What would happen if it became a REAL war against actual factions? Who would win? Who would YOU bet on? What factors work into each side’s goal for the war’s outcome? They seem like silly questions, but they are posed here with some great insight, cool artwork and a wholly unique take on a game you have played thousands of times before but have never seen quite like this.
The scissors are f*cking BRUTAL!
So do yourself a favor and pop on over here and pick it up. We have only perused the first issue but it sets up a fun world of mayhem that is well worth taking a trip to.
By the way, my money’s on rock, though scissors seems like the one to beat. Come on, in the long run, who picks paper? No one, that’s who.
