Cylon Coffee Pot

Battlestar Galactica may be long over, but it’s still near and dear to our geeky hearts. Here’s how you can remember the glory days while feeding your need for caffeine at the same time.

Collin Cunningham of Makezine created this awesome coffee pot a few years ago, while the show was still on the air. When I first watched the video above, I wondered if it might be some kind of visual effect. I still think the Cylon voice might be an audio effect, but as you can see from the photo below, Cunningham created an optics system so he could insert those back-and-forth red Cylon lights into a real coffee pot.

There’s no reason a project like this should break the bank. If you’re technologically inclined, start by finding yourself a good Hayneedle coupon or something, then head to Radio Shack for some cheap transistor parts, and whip out the hot glue gun to bring it all together. (Maybe you can even find coupons for your Radio Shack shopping at CouponCodes4u or the like.)

If you put together your own Cylon coffeemaker (or any other Cylon appliance), please send us photos! You can see more of Cunningham’s model below.
