When we all first heard there was going to be a stand-alone Star Wars movie prequel that would flashback to the moment when the rebels stole the plans for the Death Star, we started praying Darth Vader would somehow make an appearance. We thought the chances were slim, but guess what guys and gals? IT’S HAPPENING, though we don’t fully know to what extent he will be featured yet. We do know he will be used, in their own words, sparingly, but just the fact that us geeks will get some more screen time with Vader is enough to get me to pre-order my Rogue One tickets now, already, for December.
So while fans shouldn’t expect Vader to be the central villain of the narrative as he was in the classic trilogy, he’s still an important piece of the puzzle and should be one of the most memorable aspects of Rogue One. After Lucasfilm handled the returns of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia gracefully in The Force Awakens, they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt and will most likely be smart about they way they work Vader into this latest installment.
So we WILL see him, and even though it wont be hours of screen time, just to get to hear that iconic breathing on the big screen again is enough to give me chills just thinking about it.
