Dell and Google Near Software Pact
Amazing at how far Google is trying to push itself. It has made some mis-steps lately, and it is unknown if moving into the PC world as a major player will be a good thing or another mistake on their part, but it looks like they are in talks with Dell.
In yet another symbol of Microsoft’s softening dominance of the computer industry, news broke Tuesday that Google may be close to a deal with Dell to preinstall its software on new computers from the manufacturer.
According to the Wall Street Journal, quoting sources close to the matter, Google would pay Dell $1 billion over three years for the rights to place its software as the default applications on new Dell computers.
Would I want a Google entrenched PC? I really don’t know. There are a few applications from Google that I use, but I would like the choice, and I really think that was what the anti-trust lawsuits in other countries over IE and Media Player were about: choice.
What do you think?
