Dell’s Ubuntu Loaded PC’s Start Selling Today

By Dave

The word on the street is that Dell will start selling their Ubuntu Linux installed computers sometime today. So far, it is early in the afternoon, still long before the 4pm CST launch time that most people heard about, and there hasn’t been anything new shifted on the site.

Engadget has posted some details on what Dell will be offering:

three rigs available for the Linux pre-load include the E520 Dimension desktop, Inspiron E1505 consumer laptop, and XPS 410 media rig, now suffixed with an “n.” All three will be up by 4pm CST later today from Dell’s “open” site. Prices start at $599 for your choice of the E520n desktop or E1505n notebook while the XPS 410n will cost you $899.

I look forward to seeing how these new machines are adopted by the consumer world. I really hope that this is the start of a higher Linux penetration in the operating system market, making Microsoft have to fight to make better products.

Check out the machines later today on Dell’s “Open” site.
