Anyone can relate to DC and Marvel and even argue some of the finer points of the characters and universe(s). Engage with comic book nerds, however, and you’ll be taken to whole new realms you never knew existed. Yup, I’m speaking from experience here.
Speaking of a different realm, if you haven’t read Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour (Image Comics), you might want to get all 14 issues and sit tight for a whole day – or weekend, depending on your speed and capacity to stomach violence and emotional pain.
Going to another universe, there’s another piece of the pie that you’ll want to taste. Double Take is launching its own universe which will feed the zombiephile (is that even a word?) in you.
Diane Naughton of Double Take says, “We have assembled ten teams of talented writers and artists and asked them to start their stories in the world established by Night of the Living Dead. Then we let our imaginations, and our zombies, run wild.”
She continues to say that the new stories will have new characters but that, “if you love the classic film, you won’t be disappointed. You can follow your favorite film characters from their first appearances, to their dying breaths, to their first baby zombie steps.”
“Double Take launched our universe with a big bang; we published all 10 of our first issues in a collection called Genesis; we collected all 10 of our first issues Genesis I Super-Pack, and we are doing the same with our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th issues (Genesis II, III, IV and V.,” she reveals.
So it’s zombies. It’s based on the Night of the Living Dead.
Why should you spend time – and money – on another comic book series?
Well, it’s zombies, and if you aren’t sick of them, you probably need a zombie fix right about now.
