UPDATE: January 8, 2015. HBO just announced the premiere for Season 5: APRIL 12, 2015!
Is HBO following BBC when it comes to specials for its Game of Thrones fandom? Christmas Day is the traditional day for Whovians, and while BBC has been doing that for years now, HBO is releasing a Game of Thrones special only for the second time (then again the series is rather new, so that’s understandable).
Game of Thrones Special 2014 – Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing
The provider released a special last year, which was a total teaser of a video. For those who have seen it (I can’t imagine a serious Game of Thrones fan not having watched it, though), you all know that it was all about looking forward to season 4, new characters, and upcoming story lines.
Now just in case you haven’t seen the 2014 special and/or season 4, here is Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing. Obviously, SPOILER ALERT!
Game of Thrones Special 2015 – A Day in the Life
So this year, Winter Is Coming got a tip about a “mysterious” Game of Thrones special, which is slated to air on February 8 at 7:30 PM Eastern Time. A week before Valentine’s Day, that’s sure to put couples who are Game of Thrones fans in a good mood…
From the screenshot that the tipster sent, there doesn’t seem to be much information except for the title “A Day in the Life” and a short description “behind-the-scenes featurette”. Of course, Game of Thrones fans don’t need much more than a hint of a “Game of Thrones special” to get excited about the whole thing, which will last less than half an hour.
While last year’s special was truly a teaser, this year’s seems like it would be totally different. While that is not bad in itself, I would rather have a similar theme than a behind-the-scenes featurette before season 5. That’s simply because there is a lot of behind-the-scenes material to be devoured.
In any case, don’t forget to mark February 8 at 7:30 PM Eastern Time down.
Here’s more to whet that Westerosian appetite
Season 5 will air in April, so we can expect more videos and tidbits from HBO between February and then. In the meantime, here are some things you will find useful – and delight you, of course.
You can also get your hands on some Game of Thrones merchandise, as usual. And, for the love of God, if you don’t have either of these 2015 calendars yet, get them!
Game of Thrones 2015 Wall Calendar
The HBO version, which you can get here.
A Song of Ice and Fire 2015 Calendar
The book version, which you can get here. I’ve got this one, and I’m telling you it’s totally worth the cost (which is not much, by the way).
Going back to where we started, members of the Game of Thrones fandom, what are your thoughts and/or predictions about the February special? Let’s talk about it!
