Fans Mobilize to Get ‘Star Wars Battlefront III’ Made

September 7, 2012 by Robin Parrish 1 Comment

We’ve been bemoaning the demise of Star Wars Battlefront III here at ForeverGeek for a long time. If you’re tired of waiting and want to play Battlefront III, then the time to act is right now.

Don’t get me wrong. Star Wars 1313 looks incredible. Like The Force Unleashed, it appears to be another story-driven action game set in a wholly different corner of the Star Wars universe (with drastically upgraded technology). And my love for the LEGO Star Wars games knows no bounds. That first one was a revelation, because it proved that family-friendly games could be just as fun and addictive as the hardcore variety. Heck, even my wife loved it, and she’s not a gamer.

But oh, how I miss Battlefront. Something about its frenetic action, its non-stop shootouts, the tactical decision-making, the onslaught of wave after wave of opponents, all set amid the fantastical worlds of Star Wars, and with familiar characters aboard, too… It’s an amazing series of games (the second one was particularly brilliant) that may be dated from a technology standpoint, but the gameplay still holds up because it was so perfectly designed.

Both games were runaway bestsellers, which in the games industry never fails to guarantee a sequel will get made. A third game was commissioned by LucasArts, but it was cancelled after a long, sordid saga of developer acquisitions and unchecked corporate greed. There were a few handheld entries in the series for PSP and DS, along with one made just for smartphones. The last of these was released in late 2009.

But it’s been seven long years since the release of Star Wars Battlefront II, and I’m sick of waiting. Aren’t you? It’s time for LucasArts to wake up give gamers what they really want. To that end, a fan named Connor Heggie has created a popular Facebook page that you should go “Like” right now to raise awareness and send a loud message to LucasArts that we want — no, we demand a third Battlefront game. I don’t care if it’s Battlefront III, Battlefront Online, or something else. As long as it brings a next-gen Battlefront experience to modern consoles while staying true to the legacy of the original games… I’m there.

How about you?
