Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Originally developed in Japan, Ocarina of Time was the fifth title in the Zelda series and is currently available in 3D. Rated as one of the highest-selling games of all time, the game sold more than one million copies in Japan and nearly eight million copies worldwide. The storyline precedes all other versions and explains Link’s life and trials. The young Kokiri lad must help defend Hyrule and the precious Triforce from the evil King Ganondorf by venturing back and forth through time and altering history.
Halo: Combat Evolved
Touted as being one of the most important games of all time, by the end of 2005, more than five million copies of Halo sold worldwide. Taking place in the futuristic 26th century, gamers play the role of a genetically enhanced super-soldier named John. Also known as Spartan-117, the United Nations Space Corp. officer battles with aliens while on a mission to expose the secrets of the ring-shaped world of Halo.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Modern Warfare is the fourth game in the Call of Duty series and the first in the Modern Warfare storyline. The game was also the first in the series to require the rating of M for Mature audiences. The story unfolds in 2011 as civil unrest breaks out in Russia between the government and a group of nationalists. Simultaneously, a revolution rages on in the Middle East. Allied forces fear that leaders of both uprisings will join forces and wage nuclear war against the United Nations. The United States and the United Kingdom band together to quell the problems in both areas.
Super Mario 64
This version of Super Mario represented one of the earliest games created in a 3D platform. The popularity of the cartoon-like adventure sold more than 11 million copies. The story takes place in the castle of Princess Peach, which includes a basement, a moat and a courtyard. Mario receives an invitation to the castle. However, soon after arriving, he learns that Bowser got there before him, imprisoned the princess and her court using the power of the 120 stars. Mario must journey through all of the castle’s passageways, defeat Bowser and rescue the princess.
Final Fantasy VII
The game was the first in the Final Fantasy series to incorporate 3D graphics and the first to enjoy a European release. The combination of gameplay, graphics, soundtrack and storyline made Final Fantasy VII the best-selling in the series with ten million copies having been sold by 2010. The story revolves around the environmental and social hazards created by ShinRa that threaten the planet. A mercenary accompanied by the Avalanche organization must overthrow the company and restore order.
