Firefox Quick Tip: PDF Download

It is pretty obvious that 93% of the people that surf the web, don’t like to open .PDF files on the browser itself because it eats a lot of memory among other issues. Some browsers don’t even ask the users what to do, and instantly open Acrobat Reader inside the browser – a pain in the ass.

Firefox Add-on PDF Download is here for the rescue.

Basically it provides 4 options in a pop-up window when you try to open a PDF file while using Firefox, more specifically:

  • view as html inside the browser
  • download the file
  • open the PDF inside Firefox
  • or open it outside the browser using the default PDF reader

Obviously the first option is the best – view as html – because it is faster, uses less resources than the other options, and the content is still readable. The only problem is that the format of the PDF file (fonts, sizes, etc) gets lost, but at least you won’t have to deal with annoying problems again.
