Based on J.J. Abrams’ updated film series, Star Trek the video game will continue the adventures of the Enterprise crew as seen in the 2009 film. Not much is known about the game, but we can tell you that its main thrust is co-op, as you and a buddy play as young Kirk and Spock.
Abrams’ 2009 movie was a real crowd-pleaser. Epic, fun, and thrilling. One thing it lacked, though, was a decent tie-in video game. It was unusual for a tentpole release to not get a companion video game, but it looks like that’s going to be rectified soon.
IGN scored the exclusive teaser trailer, which was unveiled earlier today (embedded above). It features quick-cut shots of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock — with the likenesses of actors Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto — running, diving, shooting phasers, and lots of other cool stuff. The thing that really jumps out at me are the visuals, which are truly impressive, nicely matching the blockbuster scale of the environments from the film.
Digital Extremes and publisher Namco Bandai are planning to release their new Star Trek game in the second quarter of 2013. Which puts it on schedule to coincide about the same time as Abrams’ second Star Trek film hits theaters. Might it secretly be a tie-in video game? Hmm.
