Flickr, Picasa, and Gmail

I love Flickr. I have been using it for a few months now and purchased a Pro account just before heading to SXSW last month. Since I am on a Mac, I can export directly from iPhoto to my Flickr account thanks to a handy little plugin that someone was kind enough to write and release.

However, sending images to Flickr from a Windows computer has always seemed a bit tedious. There is the Flickr Uploadr that will let you upload images to your account and there is Flickr’s web-based interface.

Web developer Jim Rutherford has come up with a way to use Picasa, Google’s free image organization and editing application, and Gmail to send photos to his Flickr account.

The third way you can get photos to your Flickr account is by using email. Enter Picasa and Gmail. Picasa is a great free photo management tool that lets you organize and perform simple edits and manipulations to your photos.

With the recent release of Picasa 2.0, you can now email directly from this great image management software. When you email from Picasa, you can tell the application to automatically resize your photos before sending them. So uploading to Flickr has become much easier.

So there you have it. An easy way to upload photos from a PC to Flickr. Apparently the only drawback is that you can’t tag your images. You have to do that on the site.
