Fujitsu announces HD H.264 encoder/decoder
Fujitsu has just announced a new chip that can encode and decode full HD movies (1920 x 1080 pixels) in real time. The chip comes with 256MB of onboard FCRAM and only consumes 750mW when encoding the video.
The chip will be available to OEM’s starting in July for the “measly” amount of $247. Sounds like good news for video professionals everywhere. I wonder when we’ll be able to fit these kinds of chips inside our cellphones.
