Game of Thrones: How Religion Ruled Season 6
Incest? Check. Child murder? Check. Rape? Check. Child rape? Well, you get the point. Game of Thrones deals with some very weighty and heady topics among its political and sociological themes that run through the show. Little is taboo our untouchable, yet, even with that extreme, nothing plays a more prominent role in the story of Game of Thrones than the running theme of religion. Everything good that has happened has happened because of “the Gods” (whichever one of the many they are speaking of or worshiping at the time). Yet also, all the bad that seems to befall any House seems to get blamed on their Gods as well. It is like our own world, torn apart and asunder because of religious extremists who do not seem to understand the ideas and true ideologies of religion.
But Game of Thrones is aware of this, and plays with religion more than even hardcore fans notice. This past season (season 6), religion seemed more prominent than ever, with miracles and savagery abound. But just how important and essential has religion been to the story in season 6 of Thrones?
Watch the above video from the great scribes over at ScreenCrush that shows some brilliant examples of how God and “The Gods” (or at least the threat of their wrath) drives most who inhabit the 7 kingdoms.
