Editor’s note: Earlier this year, we had an awesome list showcasing the 5 geekiest podcasts that will make any commute enjoyable. Today, we have a guest writer who is sharing her own list of geekiest podcasts. You might see a familiar name in this list, but you’ll certainly discover new podcasts to listen to!
Our guest writer is CheriMonster, who lives in Garden City, MI where she is an amazing mother of two boys, 1 annoying dog and 2 cats, and has been married to her totally awesome husband for five years! When she’s not flying around inside a TARDIS, she’s writing for Don’t Forget a towel.com.
I have realized that morning radio is not only painfully generic – it just straight up sucks! About a year ago, I had a new radio installed in my car so that I could listen to my iPod while driving and began loading up podcasts in the morning to avoid all the crap they talk about on the normal morning radio shows that feature our city’s zany Disc Jockeys like Tommy and The Douche, or whatever your local station calls their hosts.
As a huge fan of podcasts, I’ve realized that there are tons out there to listen to, and not only are they entertaining, they’re free!!! Any subject that you might be interested in, I can assure you that there is a podcast out there for you.
I’ve compiled a list of some that I think that the wonderful world of geeks might be interested in.
By far my favorite of all podcasts out there. The Nerdist Podcast is a weekly interview show “about what it really means to be a nerd” hosted by Chris Hardwick (The Talking Dead), Jonah Ray and Matt Mira. They have had some amazing guests and their “hostfulls” (just an hour of the three of the them talking) are great.
The show features comedian Doug Benson, where he has a panel of 3 or more guests where they discuss movies and everything else. The show is taped in front of a live audience and everyone plays games like: A, B, C, D’s Nuts and The Leonard Maltin Game. It’s a lot of fun to play along with them and Benson is hilarious as always.
Hosted by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, The Indoor Kids talks about the lifestyle you lead in order to be a proper gamer. They discuss new and old video games from early childhood up to now. This is a funny and extremely entertaining show. If you play video games or just like to hear about it, this is a great program for you.
Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas take the most terrible (and sometimes great movies) and completely tear them apart and makes fun of them. Be prepared to go home and check Netflix as soon as you’re finished with an episode because you will want to watch whatever movie they have discussed, trust me, I’ve done it quite a few times.
These are just a few of the amazing, funny, entertaining and enlightening podcasts out there right now. If none of these sound like something you would like, go to iTunes and do a search for The Nerdist network, Smodcast or Earwolf, or just search for something you’re interested in. You would be amazed at the amount of choices you will have.
