It’s the time to eat, drink, be merry, and eat, drink, and be merry. Whether it’s for Christmas, for New Year, or just for the heck of it, what better way to liven up your parties than with these geeky party drinks?
Cranberry Orange Mulled Wine
Mulled wine is a favorite during winter, as it is usually served hot. It’s basically red wine with a variety of spices and other flavors. This particular recipe calls for cranberry and orange, which is perfect for a relaxed evening party. You can find out how to make it here.
Why is mulled wine geeky? Remember this?
“The Old Bear was particular about his hot spiced wine. So much cinnamon and so much nutmeg and so much honey, not a drop more. Raisins and nuts and dried berries, but no lemon, that was the rankest sort of southron heresy…” – A Clash of Kings
The guys at the Inn at the Crossroads have replicated the medieval mulled wine that the people of Westeros probably drank. You’ll definitely score geek points if you serve this. Get recipes here.
Everyone who gets enough of Pirate’s Punch will not have trouble speaking like a pirate. They may be funny, or they may get on your nerves, but one thing’s for sure: you’ll love this drink. According to the Intoxicologist, this cocktail can be made as a single drink, or if you need more, you can multiply the ingredients to make a big batch.
It’s not a mix of cigars and beer, but it’s all about molecular gastronomy. How much nerdier can you get? Paste Magazine offers up the idea of taking your favorite beer to the next level with the use of molecular gastronomy. You get the beer, and get a smoking gun – a real food smoking device, and not the figure of speech.
Here comes the science:
A molecular gastronomy gadget called “The Smoking Gun.” The Smoking Gun coats your food with a surface-level infusion of smoky flavor. The way it works is you load the gun up with your favorite flavored wood chip or aromatic herb and you light it. Once the the chips burn, the gun creates and releases a cooled smoke that can infuse foods without heating or overcooking them. This is ideal for food and beverages you normally want to keep cold like beer or butter.

The 12th Doctor Cocktail
Vlogger Mitch Hutts has his special YouTube channel which is all about geeky party drinks. In honor of the 12th Doctor, he created this drink, which is supposed to embody the Doctor’s older, wiser, and intimidating character. Watch the video to make the drink and impress the heck out of your Whovian friends.
The Flash Shot
Another video tutorial from Mitch Hutts, this time for The Flash Shot. No explanation need as to where the name of the cocktail comes from. While I am not sure the shot will make you as fast as Barry, Mitch says it’s a quick, smooth shot.
Modern Warfare 3 Frag Grenade Shot
This one’s for the gamers. A couple of years ago, we featured this shot, and our opinion remains the same: the Modern Warfare 3 Frag Grenade Shot will make your party a blast.
Michiru Hoshino (Katamari Damacy mocktail)
For people who don’t drink – or can’t drink anymore, like yours truly – here’s something that will keep us happy. Here’s how to make it:
2 oz White cranberry juice
1/2 oz Sour mix
1 splash Ginger ale
Directions: Shake all ingredients with ice, garnish with a maraschino cherry.
A note from the creator:
This mocktail is essentially a virgin cosmopolitan, to feel this drink a bit more simply omit the ginger ale in favor of a splash of the cranberry juice, and add 1 1/2 oz of Citron vodka and 1/2 oz of Cointreau. (Source)
