I have no idea who these people are, but the mere idea of a Geek Calendar is enough to get me clicking and reading. On Thursday, October 21, the Geek Calendar will be launched, marking a momentous occasion in geekdom. So what’s it all about? Well, do not expect Star Wars, Star Trek, gadgets, comic books, or anything like that. This calendar may not have your favorite symbols of geekiness, but it does feature the “heroes of UK geekdom.”
Here’s how the people behind this project describe it:
“Geek Calendar showcases the UK’s geek heroes in ways you will have never seen before. This is not a ‘pin-up’ calendar in the traditional sense (and no, they are not naked), instead it features interesting photos of intriguing people, reminding us of each person’s ideas, achievements and creativity.
Some of our geeks are famous, some are not, some are scientists, some are artists. All are nerds to the core.”
How can you not be interested in something like that? Here are a few of the images that you will get to see in your kitchen wall (or office wall, whatever the case may be) if you get hold of a copy.
If you watch British TV (or should that be telly?), you’ll recognize funny man Chris Addison.
You (and I) may not know much about the geeks being featured in the calendar, but you cannot deny that the whole idea is a pretty neat. I will not be surprised if other groups pick up on the idea in the near future. As a matter of fact, I remember writing about a Tech Calendar of nude geeks last year.
So if you were to come up with your own Geek Calendar, who would be part of your roster? (Please don’t tell me Olivia Munn.)
