Well, that wasn’t unsettling at all, was it? Okay, yes, I’ve only read the first book and seen the first two movies in the Hunger Games series, but that little spoilery look at the fate of one of our heroes in the teaser ran a chill down my spine. If you’ve read the books, this wasn’t a surprise to you at all, but you have to admit it was kind of cool how it was presented.
This little bit of Panem propaganda is likely the first of many addresses that President Snow (Donald Sutherland) will be bringing to the people in the months to come. After what Katniss did at the end of the last film – pretty much flipping him the middle mockingjay with an escape that she wasn’t even completely prepared for – revolution has begun to bubble up in the districts. Of course, the president will have none of that. What better way to remind the roiling masses of their place in the world than with a calming video address (complete with mildly threatening undertones as expected)?
For those of you who don’t care to read the books, there are more surprises to come as the first part of the 2 part Hunger Games: Mockingjay series capper arrives in theaters November 21st, 2014.
