Intel ditches Vista for it's mid-range UMPCs

As if it wasn’t hard enough for Microsoft, and hardware manufacturers to convince consumers that we need another portable device, the choice has now become a bit harder because Intel is going to choose to sell it’s mid-range machines with Linux, instead of Windows Vista.

The interface is similar to what you’d expect from any typical Linux distribution, but with a touch of the iPhone’s interface influence applied to it. Is this a sign that Vista UMPCs are failing to meet sale expectations, or just an attempt for Intel to try and sell units at a lower price range (since they won’t have to pay a license to Microsoft).
