ISPs blocking VoIP?

This tidbit is actually about a week old and may or may not be really happening (There is some speculation on the Broadband Reports Forums), but I thought it was worth mentioning anyway.

Basically, Vonage is claiming that some ISP(s), who currently remain nameless, are blocking their service from their networks in order to offer a competing service of their own. Even the idea of this has a lot of people frustrated and concerned, and rightfully so. If this is true, and some providers are doing this sort of blocking, then hopefully the FCC will step in and tell them to stop it.

Having been a Vonage customer myself now for about six months, I can tell you that I personally have been thrilled with the service and the price. In fact, I’m far happier with Vonage than I am with my Cable ISP that I have to keep in order to use Vonage. So, this hits home a little close for me. If my cable company begins blocking my Vonage service, then I guess I will be forced to consider dropping them and finding a different solution (since that is the main reason that I stick with them).
