It’s the cage match of the century! If anybody can make George Lucas answer for his sins with the prequel Star Wars trilogy, it’s the one-man-army that is Jon Stewart. After all, Stewart makes more people squirm by nailing them for their stupidity — on camera — than anybody else on television.
But okay, this is probably just a pipe dream. George and Jon are facing off, all right, but at a major Lucasfilm event: Star Wars Celebration V. If Stewart’s operating on Lucas’ dime, then you can expect him to play nice and produce an adequate amount of suck up for The Bearded One.
Their live, hourlong, on-stage interview is being dubbed “The Main Event,” and Lucasfilm’s PR office describes it as a “candid conversation [that] will spark a discourse sure to shed light on the storied history of the Star Wars Saga.” Whether or not that’s PR-speak for “Stewart’s going to ask him what he was smoking when he cooked up Jar Jar Binks” remains to be seen.
What’s known is that Stewart is a major Star Wars fan, so it’ll be interesting to see if he tempers his journalistic sensibilities in favor of his fanboyism, or if he asks the hard questions that everybody hopes he will.
Star Wars Celebration V takes place in Orlando, August 12th through the 15th.
