LED designer Moritz Waldemeyer has designed a bicycle… a happy one! :)
What’s great about this bike is that the smiley face is drawn by one led light attached to a single spoke. This LED is connected to a small microchip that instructs the LED light to turn on and off as the wheel turns. The smiley face is drawn while you’re riding the JoyRider, isn’t that cool. It would be very strange to have the face rolling, eh?
The JoyRider auctioned and sold for US$1,800 at the recent ICA 2008 Gala.
I’m not really sure when this will see retail stores, but I think it would be a good idea seeing that the holidays are coming faster than we think. I’d venture a guess that retail (if ever) versions will sell for about US$500-800.
Not really sure too how those LEDs last, batter rechargeable or variation in colors. I’d be happy to see known brands take a look at this design and give it the $$$ it deserves.
