LEGO Pirates Goodness
Man, I’m such a sucker for the LEGO games. I know they’re totally formulaic and never bring anything new or different to the medium. But doggone it if they don’t reel me in with their addictive, silly fun every single time.
A brand new trailer for LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game has been released, along with a handful new screens and some previously unknown details about the game. LEGO Pirates lets players play through the most memorable scenes from the first three movies, along with the new one coming this summer, On Stranger Tides, for a total of more than 20 levels. Disney Interactive boasts that there will be 70 playable Minifigure characters, including pretty much every character from the movies and even some new ones invented just for the game.
Developer TT Games says that the addition of swordplay to the LEGO formula is one of the ways in which this title stands apart from past LEGO games. Those games include LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Harry Potter, and LEGO Batman. LEGO Pirates represents the first Disney-owned franchise to receive the LEGO treatment, thanks to a recent business partnership between LEGO and the mouse house. And it’s unlikely to be the last, since Disney has no shortage of franchises ripe for LEGO-ization. LEGO Toy Story, anyone?
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game comes to PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, DS, 3DS, and PSP on May 10th, 2011, ten days before the fourth movie hits theaters.
