Long Beach Comic-Con 2015 Returns Bigger and Better than Ever!

I’ve been attending the Long Beach Comic-Con in Southern California since it started in 2009 and it still manages to surprise me. Their annual fall show has always been the bigger of the two Long Beach shows they host per year (the other is Long Beach Comic Expo), but this time they outdid themselves. Considering that their spring Expo was bigger than ever last February/March, stretching into 2 days, it only seems appropriate that their main show grows a little bit too. They took on double (if not triple) the usual area they’ve had in previous years, allowing for more artists in artist alley and more vendors, fan clubs, and charities to fill up the space like never before. Plus, along with the usual pop culture icons that love to hang out within the convention center by the sea, Long Beach Comic-Con welcomed two high profile stars to their lineup: John Barrowman (Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Arrow) and Chloe Bennett, one of the stars of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Both were on hand to chat with fans, sign autographs, and pose for pictures at different times throughout the week.

And this year, as a special bonus, Long Beach Comic-Con welcomed the Columbia Memorial Space Center as they created a small con within a con, called Space Expo 2015. The exhibit featured a giant inflated space shuttle, an astronaut’s space suit in which you could take a selfie of cosmic proportions, custom robot battles, 3D printers, and information about all aspects of space travel, made especially fun and accessible (and not surprisingly educational) for kids and adults alike.

But between all the action on the floor, creator panels throughout the building, and vendors selling every type of collectible you could imagine, with row after row of some of the top artists in the country sitting at the heart of the show, there was a lot to experience. Of course, from a visual perspective, cosplay is the best thing to show off in a photo gallery from the weekend. I could throw in a few pics of a celebrity talking into a microphone or someone sketching away at their artist alley booth, but I know most are here to see the best cosplayers we could find. From the Walking Dead to Disney characters galore and every type of Star Wars character you can imagine (old and new), Long Beach Comic-Con 2015 had plenty of creative cosplayers to check out throughout the weekend. Here’s a sample of some of our favorites.

If you’re interested in more shows from the fine folks at Mad Event Management, their next show is taking place all the way across the country in New Jersey! The New Jersey Comic Expo will debut in Edison, NJ, on November 21st and 22nd, 2015. Then for those of us back in SoCal, the Long Beach Comic Expo will return next spring, February 20th-21st, 2016. We hope to see you there!
