Lucas Brings Bad News about "Original" Original Trilogy on DVD

Well, everybody can stop celebrating over George Lucas seemingly caving-in to fan-demand and releasing the “Original” Original Star Wars Trilogy (without Special Edition enhancements) on DVD. As always, there is a catch.

As reported by AICN and, more humorously, Penny Arcade, the Original Trilogy DVDs will NOT be a remastered transfer. Unfortunately, in his disgust for the original films, Lucas “taped over” the negatives when creating the Special Editions. The DVDs are instead being ripped from the Laser Disc releases from many years back.

And if only to make matters worse, initial reports are saying that the Original Trilogy will only be available packaged with the Special Edition Trilogy. Supposedly, this is to discourage people who bought the previous Special Edition Trilogy box set from purchasing this one, and thus protect Lucas from the humiliation of seeing the Original Trilogy out-sell his precious Special Edition Trilogy.
