Mac FTP Clients Reviewed
I had been planning on doing a review/comaprison of two FTP clients for Mac, Transmit and Fetch. I had used Fetch briefly back in college, but have pretty much been a fan of Transmit for a few years now.
Fetch released a new version a month or so ago that seemed pretty stout, but I just haven’t had the time to sit down and do a solid head-to-head comparison.
Luckily, MacWorld has done it for me, and has even thrown in a third FTP client for good measure. They seem to have come to pretty much the same conclusion that I did, which is that Transmit is the better of the three.
All three applications can get your files from point A to point B successfully, but they differed greatly in convenience features and ease of use. Despite having some unique capabilities, Captain FTP 4.2 was the most cumbersome of the three; Transmit 3.2 and Fetch 5.0.1 offered smoother, more natural operation. Fetch is no slouch, but Transmit gets the nod for a greater breadth of features and a beautiful design that makes it a pleasure to use.
