Marvel Preps Captain America & Avengers for the Big Screen

Well, for the two of you that thought Steve Rogers might actually stay dead, you can officially slap your forehead. Marvel has announced that their next independently produced film franchise after Iron Man is going to be Captain America.

Currently the film is slated to be both a period piece set in WWII and later to take place in the modern day.

“We’ll have to play with Captain America as being a patriotic propoganda machine on one hand but also being a very human Steve Rogers, … [an] interesting, fascinating hero in his own right,” Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios, told reporters on the set of Iron Man.

“Right now what we’re developing would be about half [WW2] and half [Modern Day],” Feige said.

The Hollywood Reporter also reports that Zak Penn is hammering out a script for an Avengers film…which is something I don’t personally think we’ll ever see…Marvel is interested in producing a film based on the franchise, but wants the character’s solo films to be released first.
