Meet the Anti-Loneliness Chair: The Tranquility Chair
Everyone feels a little lonely sometimes, even when you’re with someone or in the midst of a crowd. But what if your loneliness is more like a part of your life, Ally McBeal-style? Then maybe it’s time for you to get the anti-loneliness chair.
Officially called the Tranquility Chair, this piece of furniture was a hit at the International Home Care and Rehabilitation Exhibition in Tokyo. Sold by Unicare, the Tranquility Chair is actually designed for the elderly who may have no one in their lives and feel lonely all the time.
While the chair is designed for the elderly, a spokesman for UniCare says, “It makes you feel safe. Anyone can use it, but it is designed for older people.”
That woman looks happy enough, doesn’t she?
I don’t know about you, but doesn’t the “chair” bear a resemblance to Raggedy Andy?
Anyhow, the Tranquility Chair has a version adapted for people who use wheelchairs, and it costs 46,000 yen (419 dollars). That is NOT cheap, but is there a price for anti-loneliness?
